I am a consultant respiratory physician specialising in interstitial lung disease (‘pulmonary fibrosis‘). I work at Glenfield Hospital (where I am a member of the Institute for Lung Health) and the Spire Hospital in Leicester. I also see patients with a variety of general respiratory conditions.
I studied medicine at Cambridge University and trained in respiratory medicine in East Anglia, including Addenbrooke’s and Papworth Hospitals. At Papworth I had extensive experience in pulmonary vascular disease including the consequences of chronic pulmonary emboli (‘blood clots’). I spent three years at the Royal Brompton Hospital in London studying for a PhD in interstitial lung disease under Prof Athol Wells.
I was appointed as a consultant in 2010, initially in Coventry before moving to Leicester in 2014. As well as prescribing the specialist drugs pirfenidone and nintedanib at Glenfield, patients are eligible for drug trials of new agents in ILD at our clinical trials unit in Leicester.
Since 2017 I have been chair of the British Thoracic Society Interstitial Lung Disease Special Advisory Group.
